We have been in the process of updating our backyard a little bit at a time over the summer. It has been long overdue.

Not too long ago we re-did our makeshift patio area. We had it looking nice a few years ago, but over time it just slowly started falling apart – weed growing through our ground barrier, dirty, etc. All we did was remove the weeds, but a fresh weed blocker down, and this time filled in the space with rocks instead of using the fake grass layer again. It turned out rather nice and my outside cats seem to enjoy it.

Next up for our project was the space along the side of our house between the fence. You know, that space you have no idea what to do with, but it’s there.

Since we recently got a pool, I figured why not make it a little pool supply storage area. Nothing fancy That’s when I decided to get together with Costoffs to try a couple of items to dress up this area for a simple change that would make all the difference.

The first step of this task was to weed eat most of that area, then we put some poison down to kill the remaining grass.

Next, we added a tarp to help prevent grass and weeds from regrowing in that area – at least for a long time.

After that, we got some red mulch from our local hardware store, where it happened to be on sale, and put that on top.

Once that was done, I played around with the Wood Patio Tiles to figure out the placement.

The tiles you see in the picture are from a single box. They snap together or you can just space them out if you would rather not connect them. No tools are needed!  I love these things so much that if I had enough, I honestly would have done that whole space with the tiles, but I wasn’t too sure how it would look so I got only a single box to try.

The thing that’s so nice about these tiles is that they are 12 x 12inch in size and made of Fir Wood. The fact that they are interlocking wood tiles, as I mentioned, makes them unique. Just make sure you are placing them on a level surface if you plan to interlock them.

Additionally, these tiles are non-slip, which is what makes them a great candidate for my little pool area. The rooves on each wood slat increase friction and avoid accidental slipping when the tiles are wet.

After I figured out the tile placement, I went ahead and put together my new 4-Layer Wooden Flower Stand from Costoffs. Yes, I said plant stand. However, I am using it for the pool toys and pool supplies to keep everything together and out the way but in a way that looks more visually appealing.

The plant stand is made of 100% solid fir, which is known for its strength and dimensional stability as well as its natural resistance to rot and pests.

Putting the shelf together was rather easy. I was able to do it myself without the help of my husband. The instructions were easy to follow and it was easy to construct. I just recommend making sure you had a drill and wrench of some sort (for gripping) to use to tighten everything to ensure it is sturdy once you are done building. Once it is built, it is lightweight, so it is easy to move around.

With the way this shelf is designed, it can hold around 12 plants, depending on the plant size and such. Of course, as you can see, it works great for more than just plants!

A cool feature of this shelf is the detachable wheels, which make moving it really convenient if need be. When you found a spot that you are going to keep the shelf, It has brakes that allow it to be locked in place. These wheels can be detached with a screwdriver, so you can choose to use this shelf with or without wheels.

I had a lot of fun with this project and am excited to continue completing further yard projects. I am actually trying to figure out some more ways to dress up that space further, but one project at a time!

A special thanks to Costoffs for providing me a box of their wood patio tiles and the wooden flower stand to use for my project!
