he
Master Pyramorphinx, is a very Special Unique puzzle designed by Tony Fisher. It stands 10mm higher than our regular Pyraminx and adds a new dimension to our Pyraminx which is still our best selling Puzzle until now.
The Master Pyramorphinx was designed and first made by Tony Fisher. He completed his prototype on the 8th April 1991. At the time he didn’t really have a name for it and would refer to it as either 3x3x3 Tetrahedron or sometimes Tetrahedron Transformation of a Rubik’s Cube. That original puzzle was very large and heavy (unlike this one) though it turned reasonably well.
One of the first things you will notice about this puzzle is when scrambled it usually does not retain it’s shape. Most of the time it will be a confusing jumble of parts. But this lets you make beautiful and unique shapes and patterns. This type of puzzle is commonly referred to as a shape shifter or Morphing puzzle.
The Master Pyramorphinx is based on the Rubik’s Cube mechanism and is only slightly more difficult to solve. The 6 central edges are equivalent to Rubik’s Cube centers though on this puzzle they need to be correctly orientated. The 12 trapezium shaped pieces are equivalent to Rubik’s Cube edges. Positioning of these is not as strict though this can course parity errors. Exact orientation is vital. Both for the corners and centers of The Master Pyramorphinx which are equivalent to the 8 Rubik’s Cube corners. Exact positioning is vital though the four central triangles do not have a specific correct orientation. Once again this can lead to parity errors which adds an extra challenge.
The Master Pyramorphinx is made from a high quality black plastic body. The object of this puzzle is to scramble all of the sides and then return it back to its starting position. This puzzle is extra challenging because as it is scrambled it changes shape, so not only do you have to put all of the colors on the right face, but you also have to bring it back to the original shape. The Master Pyramorphinx was designed by Tony Fisher, from the United Kingdom, who has been making puzzles since 1981. The Master Pyramorphinx is now manufactured by Meffert’s Rotational Puzzles. Uwe Meffert, born in Wernigerode, Germany, not only manufactures the puzzles, but has designed many of his own puzzles as well
Puzzle Master is a Canadian distributor of a large assortment of disentanglement puzzles, brain teasers, jigsaws, puzzle rings, trick locks, boomerangs, chess sets, etc. The company started because of an interest the owner, Allan Stein, had in collecting wire puzzles. Allan collected these puzzles for a few years before he thought of making them himself. Once he found out that he was able to make the puzzles successfully he thought “Why don’t I try to sell some of the puzzles at craft shows and see if there are people who like them as much as I do”. At the craft shows he found that not only did the people like the puzzles, they loved them. These craft shows were the first way that Puzzle Master marketed these puzzles.
After selling at the craft shows for a few years, Allan decided to try and sell at some of the malls in Saskatoon. He rented a temporary location 2 weeks prior to Christmas and was totally amazed how quickly the puzzles sold. He subsequently ran out of the puzzles in 7 days. It was at that point that he realized that he had a business that was going to be viable. To this day we still have many businesses who sell at temporary locations a few weeks prior to Christmas.
In the beginning Allan made traditional puzzles that had been invented hundreds and even thousands of years ago. Now Allan is taking those traditional designs and adding his own unique touch.

So this puzzle is posted at a level 10 meaning it’s rather mind boggling. As in, it`s going to be a bit more challenging than some of the other puzzles we have checked out. For me, I was unable to solve it. Rubik cubes or puzzles of that nature just do not work for me. I love to mix them up, but don`t ask me to solve them - it`ll never happen. My husband, on the other hand, is very good at puzzles and was able to complete this within an hour on his first try. I didn`t time him so I couldn`t tell you the exact length it took, but it wasn`t overly difficult for him. Just a new puzzle that took him a bit to figure out. It probably also helps that he knows how to perform magic tricks as well, which just helps him complete things like this and figure them out much easier than I.
Aside from the solving it and enjoy it, this puzzle is a nice quality and well made. It’s not like some of those cheapy ones I’ve come across. None of the stickers were peeling off or showed signs of starting to peel. Also, the plastic is pretty durable and none of the pieces popped out. I am totally satisfied with this puzzle. It’s affordable and perfect for anyone who enjoys puzzles or just having something to fiddle with. It’s not heavy either. I have mild carpal tunnel in my wrists, which can act up if I’m holding something heavy, and I was able to enjoy this – just to give a bit of perspective. So, of course, this was another successful puzzle from Puzzle Master!
