Ever since the overturning of Roe v. Wade I’ve seen a ton of women and uterus owners scared; including myself. I generally try to stay neutral when it comes to politics, however, these current events have been very eye opening. This isn’t just about abortion. Roe v. Wade was an umbrella law. It was about privacy. Jane Roe and the others involved based their case on the following arguments (source):

  • The Texas law invaded an individual's right to "liberty" under the 14th Amendment
  • The Texas law infringed on rights to marital, familial, and sexual privacy guaranteed by the Bill of Rights
  • The right to an abortion is absolute - a person is entitled to end a pregnancy at any time, for any reason, in any way they choose

While I won’t get into all the details, you can do some research. I’m not going to argue political points. I’m not pro-abortion, I am pro-not my business what goes on between you and your doctor. And while I know this is a hot topic with many strong opinions on it, I urge everyone to look at what rights this protects as well as what else has been going on within the Supreme Court lately; including that On Wednesday, June 29th 2020, the U.S. Supreme Court released its ruling that states can prosecute non-Natives who commit crimes against Native Americans within indigenous reservations (source).

Especially after hearing about the 10-year-old rape victim denied abortion in Ohio after the Supreme Court ruling (source), I knew I just couldn’t speak up.

With all that being said, I made this post to do my part in helping spread information for those who need it. These resources do not mean they are free. Simply options to check out.

I will not tolerate hateful comments on negativity on this post. If this is not something you agree with, I respect your opinion and ask you to respect mine and go on to a new post or exit the page.

I tried to list these in alphabetical order to help you find the resource you need. I have compiled information from social media and plan to update this post as I find more resources that could be of help. If you have an additional resource not listed, please leave a comment and I’ll get it added.

Security and Privacy Tips for People Seeking an Abortion

The Digital Defense Fund provides guidance on how to protect your privacy online if searching for information about abortion that might put you at personal or legal risk.

Also, check out this document on How to Show up For Abortion Access.

I would also recommend looking up information in regards to EMTALA. The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) provides rights to any individual who comes to a hospital emergency department and requests examination or treatment. In particular, if such a request is made, hospitals must provide an appropriate medical screening examination to determine whether an emergency medical condition (EMC) exists or whether the person is in active labor. If an EMC is found to exist, the hospital must provide either stabilizing treatment or an appropriate transfer to another hospital that has the capabilities to provide stabilizing treatment. Find out more and how to file a complaint about this at CMS.org.

Advice from @lisablomattorney on TikTok:
The only LEGALLY SAFE people in anti-abortion states can talk to where your conversation is legally protected and cannot be legally forced to testify:
  1. A lawyer
  2. Members of the clergy
  3. Therapists
  4. Spouse (*Currently, in MOST places, cannot be forced to testify)

*Doctors are NOT quite as safe. Your medical records can be subpoenaed.

Additionally, I suggest printing this information out in the event it ends up blocked or removed.
