TODAY’S AMAZING FACT:
Fastball's 1998 hit "The Way" - which was released twenty-five years ago today - was inspired by Raymond and Lela Howard, an elderly Texas couple who left home to attend a local festival and never returned. The couple was found dead in their car two weeks later near Hot Springs, Arkansas. Raymond had recently had brain surgery and Lela had been exhibiting signs of Alzheimer's; police concluded that they had gotten lost, became disoriented, and accidentally drove off the road.
Like a smart phone, GPS SmartSole requires a data plan for connectivity to update its location on a map. This data plan includes your account on the MetAlert Monitoring Portal, Smart Locator App and alert notifications sent to you. Use any computer, tablet or smartphone to view location history on a map. You may share your login name and password to the MetAlert Monitoring Portal if you choose. Multiple caregivers can log in at the same time! Create geozones, circular perimeters, around the addresses. When GPS SmartSole® enters or exits these specified areas, the portal sends alerts via email & text. You can customize which caregivers receive which alerts, and you can pause some geozones while others are active.
Parkinson's Disease (PD), is a long-term degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that mainly affects the motor system. The symptoms usually emerge slowly, and as the disease worsens, non-motor symptoms become more common. The most obvious early symptoms are tremor, rigidity, slowness of movement, and difficulty with walking. Cognitive and behavioral problems may also occur with depression, anxiety, and apathy occurring in many people with PD. Parkinson's disease dementia becomes common in the advanced stages of the disease. Those with Parkinson's can also have problems with their sleep and sensory systems. Photobiomodulation (PBM) describes the use of red or near-infrared light to stimulate, heal, regenerate, and protect tissue that has either been injured, is degenerating, or else is at risk of dying. One of the organ systems of the human body that is most necessary to life, and whose optimum functioning is most worried about by humankind in general, is the brain. The brain suffers from many different disorders that can be classified into three broad groupings: traumatic events (stroke, traumatic brain injury, and global ischemia), degenerative diseases (dementia, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's), and psychiatric disorders (depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder). There is some evidence that all these seemingly diverse conditions can be beneficially affected by applying light to the head. There is even the possibility that PBM could be used for cognitive enhancement in normal healthy people. In this transcranial PBM (tPBM) application, near-infrared (NIR) light is often applied to the forehead because of the better penetration (no hair, longer wavelength).
